Show 111 is a direct result of The Michigan’s Brewers Guild Winter Beer Fest in Lansing, MI. We were invited and attended gladly. I was amazed at all the great beer at this festival, some everybody has heard of, some that should be. After the fest, we overtook a little bar next door and recorded a show. We featured unsigned artists from San Francisco named “The Gun and Doll Show“. I heard them on Amie Street and bought their tracks. There are many places to aquire their material on their website. Pictured above is Isaac Hartman from New Holland Brewery. He helped get the GBS to Michigan and joined us on our show. He supplied the “Red Tulip” which is a red ale brewed for the spring tulip festival in Holland Michigan. He is the self-proclaimed “Ambassador of Great Beer” and is very supportive not only of his brewery but others as well. He was also featured on GBS 95.

Mike Earnheart from “Dark Horse Brewery” is cutting the wax off of a bottle of “Double Crooked Tree IPA“. He was also at the table and made it a great show. We also featured the regular “Crooked Tree IPA“. If you are ever in the Marshall area, you need to check out their pub. It is a sight to behold. Thank you Mike and Isaac for being on this show!

Hey guys,
I’ve been listening to and enjoying the good beer show for a while now up in Minnesota. Typically, I listen when I’m running, but I’ve picked up a longer commute and started listening in the car. I’m a little behind and was listening to this episode this morning.
I was a little dismayed at your inability to distinguish between an APA and an IPA. You should check-out http://www.bjcp.org for their style guidelines which should be helpful.
In general, APA’s should be slightly lower in alcohol, gravity/body and hop intensity than IPAs. Hop choice (use of American varieties or not) has nothing to do with the difference between an APA or IPA. They may distinguish between an APA and an English IPA or PA, though.
Keep drinking and talking.
Cheers,
Jesse
